Unit 17 - Water
In this unit you will revise the water cycle and then look at water treatment.
Hard and Soft water are discussed and you will learn how to test water hardness and also for dissolved solids.
Distillation and ion exchange are introduced as methods for removing hardness and finally you will use a Hoffman Voltameter to split water into Hydrogen and Oxygen.

Unit 18 - Ecology
Autumn is almost here and the plants around the school are covered in seeds and berries. In this unit we will look at how plants prepare for Winter.
In class we will discover how all living things interact with each other and their surroundings and also the role that Humans have in reducing pollution and in conservation.
In the Summer term, when it gets warmer, we will go back out and look at the same plants again.

Unit 19 - Heat Transfer
What is the difference between Heat and Temperature?
How is heat transferred?... what makes a good insulator?.. all these questions and more will hopefully be answered.
What is the best colour to wear to keep cool?
Unit 20 - The Atmosphere
We need our atmosphere to survive but what makes it up?
We will carry out a number of experiments to find out and learn about the special properties of each gas.
Unit 21 - Magnetism and Static Electricity
The Van der Graaff Generator is alway popular as are the variety of magnetic experiments we will do.
Unit 22 - Photosynthesis and Respiration
We will look at how green plants convert energy from the Sun into chemical energy that they use and we can eat. We will see that in this process they make the oxygen we learnt about in Unit 20. We will also look at how we breathe and how breathing is different from respiration.
Unit 23 - Fossil Fuels
It's an unfortunate name for them as fossil fuels are being wasted by being burnt as they contain the building-blocks for the plastic industry and for many medicines. In our work we will look at what goes wrong when care isn't taken of the environment that we discussed in Unit 18.
Unit 24 - Light and Sound
We will carry out a number of experiments to show the properties of light and discuss the similarities and differences between it and sound.
Unit 25 - Electrical Circuits I
We will start by identifying what are conductors of electricity and look at insulators too.
We will also make a number of simple circuits.
Unit 26 - The Flowering Plant
Flowers are lovely and brighten up the house and garden but they are more to the plant than that. They contain the plant's reproductive organs!
In this unit we will also look back at the work we did in unit 6 last year and discuss seed formation and germination.
Unit 27 - Year Review
Even more painful than last year because this year you have two years work to revise.
